For piano, includes one score. Etudes usually exploit a technical problem - scales, arpeggios, octaves, etc.- as a figure repeated over and over and shifted to different areas. Chopin's 27 etudes for piano were the first to achieve truly musical concert status as independent musical compositions. Some of his etudes were programmatic, e.g. Revolutionary Etude. Henry has written three contrasting etudes; Bluebird, a happy, joyous piece, King David's Harp, a vibrant and profound work, and Raindrops, an ode to Carolina summer rainstorms "that can be very dramatic if they catch you out driving." Contemporary in sound, but not too difficult to play these etudes provide great fun and good listening!
