For piano solo, includes one score. An unusual work, the five Algorithmic Dances were composed "with a computer, not by a computer," as Henry says. The product is a set of lively, succinct and amusing piano pieces that share the same metamorphosed materials throughout. Scattered fragments of popular dance rhythms create a light but modern atmosphere and could lend a happy mood to any recital. Other than a fast tempo, some syncopation and unusual directions, the music is not especially difficult. The movements are 2-3 minutes long and include a Carioca, a Czardas, a Schottische, a Saraband and a Cake Walk, adding up to a duration of ca. 12 minutes.
