William Karlins was commissioned by the Arizona State University New Music Ensemble and is dedicated to composer Glenn Hackbarth and saxophonist Joseph Wytko. The basic pitch material is drawn from a three note motive in Electra by Richard Strauss and four note motives from the 4th symphonies by Jean Sibelius and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
