Review from Percussive Notes:

This is a contemporary duet with each percussionist playing a glockenspiel and vibraphone at the same time. It is mysterious and dreamlike in nature, utilizing a combination of harmony and dissonance to create this effect.

The players are to set the instruments up in a box-style fashion (with the performers on the inside, surrounded by the instruments). The players are to “start together and roughly coordinate” at certain times during the piece. This non-synchronized approach results in an interesting, echo like effect.

Player one plays the main solo part while player two primarily plays an accompanying part. Both performers play from the beginning to rehearsal letter E. Player two fades out during the repeat of this section and joins player one again for the last 15 measures.

This piece utilizes 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 7/4, 8/4, 2/2, and 3/2 time signatures. The tempo ranges from quarter note equaling 69 to 104. Rhythmically challenging at times, the composer uses polyrhythms such as subdivisions of 6 over a measure of 5/4, and 8 over a measure of 7/4.

This piece does not include a score, which would be helpful in ascertaining exactly how the parts interact. This mellow, suspenseful-sounding piece would be a nice addition when programmed alongside pieces of a contrasting feel.
