Bump, Michael R.
Michael R. Bump is Director of Percussion Studies and Assistant Professor at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. Prior to this he served as Assistant Professor of Percussion at the Ohio State University and Associate Professor of Percussion at the University of Mississippi. He holds the DMA as well as MM degrees in percussion performance and literature from the University of Illinois, and the BME degree from the University of Memphis. His composition teachers include Jared Spears, Herbert Brun and Scott A. Wyatt. Michael's professional experience as a musician is extensive and includes performances with the Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra, the Asheville Symphony Orchestra and the Cullowhee Music Festival in North Carolina. He has also served as percussionist/assistant timpanist with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra , Memphis Opera Orchestra, Columbus Symphony and the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra. He is active in the Percussive Arts Society as a performer, producer and committee member. As as scholar he has written articles for the journals "Percussive Notes" and "The Instrumentalist."
