For mixed chorus (SATB) and piano, includes score. By the Waters of Babylon (Psalm 137) has been set many times but rarely with such imagination and passion as in this work. Henry is himself a singer and chorister and his vocal writing is idiomatic and rewarding. The work is in a tonal-modal idiom, highly colorful and powerfully evocative. Henry calls it a "spiritual madrigal after Palestrina." The piano accompaniment contributes subtle atmospheres, harp-like accompaniment and strong punctuation rather than doubling the voice. This a strong and colorful work, suitable for church or concert stage. Duration: ca. 6'30"
