Lund, Erik
Born: 24 August 1958, Oak Park, Illinois, U.S.A.; studies: Northern Illinois University (B.M.1981), University of Illinois (M.M.1984, D.M.A.1988); teachers: Jan Bach, Ben Johnston, Morgan Powell. Erik Lund's compositions have won the League of Composers, International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) and ASCAP composition competitions, and he has received grants for his work from the Musik Biennale-Berlin Festival, Meet the Composer, ASCAP, the Illinois Arts Council, and the Research Board of the University of Illinois. His works have been commissioned and/or performed by the Arditti Quartet (England), Orchestra Giovanile Italiana (Italy), Tone Road Ramblers, Ciosoni Trio, Wolpe Trio (Germany), ISCM Chamber Players, CRASH Ensemble (Ireland), Schwungvoll ensemble, WALLEYE, University of Iowa New Music Ensemble, University of Illinois Contemporary Chamber Players and New Music Ensemble, and several soloists. Lund's works have been performed at major festivals in the United States, Europe, and South Korea, and are recorded on Opus One Records, Cybele Records, and Einstein Records, and are published by Media Press and Brixton Publications. As trombonist, he has recorded with composers Anthony Braxton (Composition No. 165, New Albion Records), Morgan Powell (Darkness II, Ubres Records, and Brass Quintet No. 2, Opus One Records), Vinko Globokar (EISENBERG, col legno Records), and with the Walleye improvisation ensemble (Cornelius Cardew's Treatise, forthcoming on Mode Records).
