Absalom, My Son, the lament of David for his son slain in rebellion against his own father is strongly emotional and compelling in both its music and its subject matter. Henry creates an unusual breadth and depth of expression in long phrases against a strong, harp-like dirge in the piano. The choral parts weave and converge in different ways, symbolic of the mysteries of bereavement and mourning in this new and different setting for mixed choir and piano. Duration: ca. 3'15"
