Pastorale describes a dawn to dusk day as experienced at Olana, the Persian-styled home of the American painter Frederick Church (1926-1900) high on a hill overlooking the Hudson River Valley. Written in 1982, Pastorale has been recomposed, and a newly transcribed piano accompaniment makes this a great choice for a recital program. Pastorale can be considered a companion piece to the composer's Lament for solo oboe, harp and strings.
