Jack McKenzie – Six Snare Drum Duets
The six snare drum duets presented in this collection will be sure to challenge intermediate snare drummers. The pieces include musical directions that require both drummers to work together as a unit. For example, the performers must listen carefully to each other to perform molto ritardandos during rolls. They also must play unison sixteenth notes while performing an accelerando. The duets make use of various sounds such as playing the drum with fingertips. There are other sections where the snares are to be switched off for a different timbre. The duets include time signatures such as 2/4, 3/4, 3/8, 5/8, 6/8, and 7/8. The performers must be comfortable with basic note values as well as eighth- and sixteenth-note triplets. Only one measure in the entire collection contains thirty-second notes. The stickings are left up to the performer, with the exception of a few notated paradiddles. This collection of duets would be a great supplement when used along with traditional method books.
